One of the courses in high school I have the pleasure of taking is the infamous AP Chem. Currently, AP Chem is noted as one of the hardest courses to take in high school, with AP Physics as a close competitor. But what constitutes this class as being “hard?”

With only a little over 70 students actually taking AP Chem in FVHS, it’s hard to get a broad scope, but, from my experience, AP Chem is not to be underestimated. For the bare minimum, one must read the textbook for a few hours a day on top of conceptually difficult homework. Not only this but there are weekend labs, perhaps the bane of all AP Chem students. Students are required to take go to school an extra four hours once a month to do a college level chemistry lab. Note that these labs require skill and students will often get yelled at by the teachers for making mistakes. However, what drives students to take the class is a common suffering. Everyone knows everyone is sticking through the pain and it created a family sort of bond among all the students. Despite what us AP Chem students have to bear through, we love the teachers and the class and the class has become a big part of our lives.
